Lower Cost, Anti-Oppressive, Justice-Oriented Counselling Services

about

My name is Nav (he/him). I am a gay, cis, non-disabled, second generation, racialized settler. My parents immigrated to these lands from the Punjab region of India and I was born and raised in so called British Columbia. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) working with Prospect Counselling + Training, where I receive ongoing training to ensure ethical and effective practice.

I strive to practice from a place of cultural humility, and I view the world through queer, social justice, and anti-oppressive lenses. My perspective is shaped by my lived experiences, navigating clashing cultural expectations and values. Growing up, exploring and developing my personal and cultural identity, I felt as though I did not have support or a sense of belonging. Instead, I felt othered from the communities around me and was unable to find individuals that understood my intersectional identity and the unique challenges that it brought. Now that I find myself in a place where I have been fortunate to learn and grow from my past experiences, I hope to help those that may find themselves struggling along their own path.

When I am not working, I find joy in other pursuits that nourish my mind and spirit. I can often be found experimenting in the kitchen, reading and writing, being a plant dad, and exploring worlds of make-believe with my partner and friends playing tabletop roleplaying games.

I am passionate about working with individuals who feel isolated from themselves or the world around them; I believe in the resilience of the human spirit, and the healing power of storytelling; and I envision the counselling space to be a safe-enough space that we co-create to nurture self exploration.

Through conversation, kindness, and collaboration, we can name and process experiences and feelings that have been left unsaid and unattended to, and we can ignite a spark that will continue to motivate change inside and out of our space.
